Water? How much should I be Drinking?

Water is the most important nutrient for our body. The average person should be consuming at least 8 cups of water a day (13 cups for men, 9 cups for women). If you are pregnant you should be drinking at least 13 cups of water a day. An individual who exercises should consume at least 2.5 cups more during the day if not more depending on the amount of time spend exercising that day.

During the hot Summer months it is especially important to keep our self hydrated. Humidity and heat can cause our bodies to rapidly loose water. Also its worth to mention when a person is sick (vomiting, fever, etc.) they are loosing fluids rapidly therefore an increase of fluids is needed (a little more than water in this case will work wonders things like Gatorade or Powerade will help replenish the electrolytes lost).

Two simple tips to know you are well hydrated:
1. Drink enough so you don't feel thirsty
2. Drink enough so your urine is always clear

Why is water so good? Well that will next weeks posts! ;)

Enfoque Mensual/Monthly Spotlight: Meet Claudia A!

Dice Claudia: “¡He perdido 17 libras! ¡Me encanta Zumba! Los instructores son excelentes y con mucha energía, he entablado nuevas amistades, las chicas son muy amables y nuestro deseo mutuo de mejorar nuestra apariencia física nos ayuda a tener una conexión especial. Zumba ha cambiado mi vida." ¡Felicidades Claudia! Su dedicación a rendido frutos. ¡Sigue adelante!

Claudia moved from Madagascar to the USA last year in July, 2010. In September, she became acquainted with Zumba through her good friend Myriam. With the change in food and lifestyle Claudia says, “I gained so much weight, I was desperate. I then had to follow a diet, started to eat lots of fruits and vegetables, to drink a lot of water, to lessen the carbohydrates and fatty foods, and of course I continued to do Zumba. So I lost 17 pounds...I just love Zumba! The instructors are great, very energetic. I love going to Zumba because I made a bunch of friends, the ladies are so friendly and our mutual desire to change our physics for the better creates a bond between all of us. Zumba has changed my life. I used to be easily out of breath with the least effort, now I’m boosted, I’m more energy and I can't imagine my life without Zumba anymore. As far as I am concerned, Zumba gives a better result with a bit of a diet too and lots of water.” Congratulations Claudia! Your hard work and dedication has paid off. Keep it up!
